Who Qualifies for Assisted Living?

When it comes to assisted living, who will qualify to live there can vary depending on the facility you are looking to use. Overall there is a common theme among assisted living home facilities and what they look for in a good candidate for their services. Assisted living is an excellent option for those that:

  • Need help with everyday tasks
  • Benefit from medication management
  • Still have independence and do not need constant supervision

If you or your loved one have needs that fit into what is listed above, assisted living may be the answer. Assisted living can cater to a large range of needs but it is not for those that need around-the-clock care, have extensive medical needs, and for those that need memory care.

Help With Everyday Tasks

One of the big indicators that assisted living is right for you or your loved one is that you need help with some of your everyday tasks. In some states, there must be a need for help with at least two of what are called daily tasks of living (ADL). ADL can include but is not limited to:

  • Personal Hygiene
  • Transfer movements, such as sitting to standing or getting out of bed
  • Bathing
  • Meal preparation
  • Incontinence help and care
  • Getting dressed
  • Walking

All of these are vital to an individual’s health and well-being, so if you or a loved one are having a hard time completing these tasks on your own The Gables Assisted Living could be a great option to have help when needed.

Medication Management

With many health conditions, medication is used to help regulate and stabilize the condition. This allows the individual to continue on with their life as they wish. But if medications that help are not taken on a regular basis, it can cause health problems once again. Taking medications consistently and as prescribed can make all the difference in their effectiveness. That is why if you or a loved one are having a hard time taking your medication as prescribed having someone manage the medication can be helpful. In an assisted living facility, medications are a priority and will help your body stay as healthy as possible.

Independence

When looking at assisted living homes, you will want to find one that will fit your individual needs. Assisted living facilities are the perfect option for those that are looking for a little help but want to maintain their independence. It is a place that is not going to monitor your every move but be there when you need them to be. For those that need more extensive supervision or constant assistance, assisted living is not what you are looking for and would not give you what you need. Choosing assisted living for your accommodations allows you to live your life independently but have help on standby if you do need their help.
